It was recently announced that the items from the upcoming mega dungeon Tazavesh cannot be upgraded, but can be captured directly at item level 226. Tazavesh comes with patch 9.1 of WoW Shadowlands and can initially only be played in the normal mythic mode. Unlocking for Mythic-Plus usually happens with the next season - so probably patch 9.2.This
item level adjustment sounds nice at first. Instead of 210 items, for example, I can equip my Twink with 226 gear right away. Well, at least if the items drop for me, after all I only have the chance to get items from the total of eight bosses once a week. On second glance, this is the worst change imaginable for the dungeon.
Woulda had bicycle chain
Before this adjustment, I could have upgraded my 210 items from Tazavesh to item level 250. For comparison, in heroic mode the front bosses of the new raid drop 239 Ilvl, in mythic 252. So even as a mythic raider, some items from the dungeon would have been interesting. Since I probably wouldn't have found all the appropriate items in the first run, I would have been drawn there for several weeks. So the dungeon would have kept players busy for some time - which it should, as one of the main contents of the patch.
Tazavesh - Dead on Arrival
Instead, the Mega Dungeon is already uninteresting before it's even implemented. Because aside from a weekly run with the Twink, the dungeon in patch 9.1 is good for what exactly? Sure you check it out and maybe play the bosses in hardmode.... But then?
The upgradeable catch-up gear for Stygia I can upgrade to Ilvl 233, items from Mythic-Plus dungeons (even from lower levels) have a higher item level with patch 9.1. And at the latest when I'm a few times through the normal mode of the raid, I don't care about 226 items anymore.
Tazavesh, the mega dungeon that comes as a big feature of the first Shadowlands patch, is not content that will last long even before release. It won't be until patch 9.2, when it will likely get clearance for two Mythic-Plus sections, that the mega-dungeon comes back to the forefront. There's a bland aftertaste here: patch 9.1 probably won't be released for another nine months, and patch 9.2 will be released barely six months after that at best. Phew.
