Community Manager Kaivax has commented on the official WoW forum about the player assignment system of the arena in WoW: Burning Crusade Classic. He once again clarifies the differences between team scoring and personal scoring:
"The game uses multiple scores to rank PvP performance. Each Arena team has a team rating that starts at 0 and increases through matches played together. In addition, each player on the team has a personal rating that is calculated based on the results of matches played with the team. When a player leaves a team, their personal rating with that team is reset. When a player joins a team that has already played matches, they take over up to 1,000 rating points of the team's current team rating. These scores are displayed in the PvP window and are used to determine weekly points and rewards at the end of the season."
Kaivax also reveals what the player assignment rating (MMR) is all about.
"To allow players to compete against opponents of similar skill, the game also calculates a Player Assignment Rating (MMR) for each character. At the end of each match, your MMR will be updated to most closely match your skill level. Team rating and personal rating are updated based on the match result and player assignment calculations. Your character will maintain this MMR across teams. So if a player leaves their team and joins a new one, they will immediately compete against opponents of similar skill, even if the new team starts with a rating of 0.
Ultimately, this means that the more matches you play with the same team, the closer your personal rating will be to your MMR."
