The mediums that we can put into the talent tree of our soul band are actually supposed to provide a bit more individuality. In the case of finesse and resistance mediums, that works halfway decent. In the case of potency mediums, however, it's a different story. Here, most players don't decide based on personal preference, but mostly based solely on numbers. After all, the potency mediums increase your damage and healing, sometimes massively, so it's clear that you'll usually go for the best medium in terms of math. But stupidly, you can only get these types of mediums in mythic dungeons so far. With the exception of the particular medium that improves your pact ability, which is available from the world boss.
This also forces ambitious raid raiders into high level mythic dungeons. Something that, according to some statements made during BlizzConline, the developers actually don't want to have that much. Especially since you have to successfully master really high levels there to get to the respective item level of the mediums.
Potency Mediums in Castle Nathria
This problem, if you want to call it that, will now be addressed by the developers in the upcoming patch 9.0.5 by making some potency media accessible via the current raid as well. Starting March 10, when patch 9.0.5 hits the live servers, you'll have the ability to capture potency media in Castle Nathria - but only two media per playstyle. On the one hand, all classes get their pact-specific medium at the final boss Count Denathrius. In addition, there is usually one more medium per playstyle. In many cases, this is the strongest power medium apart from the pact mediums. The item level of the medium depends on the difficulty level at which you defeat the respective boss: from 184 in LFR to 226 in mythic mode.
The original source remains unaffected. You will still be able to obtain the medium in question via the mythical dungeons or the world boss.
